Disarmament and International Security Committee, briefly known as DISEC, is the first committee of the United Nations General Assembly. DISEC mainly deals with disarmament, situations that threaten anystates, obstacles to global peace; and it seeks out solutions to the challenges that concern international security.
In the Article 11 of the UN Charter, purpose of DISEC is stated as “The General Assembly may consider the general principles of cooperation in the maintenance of international peace andsecurity, including the principles governing disarmament and the regulation of armament.”
Also, the Disarmament committee is aimed to tackle issues jeopardising international peace and security, and disarmament within the scope of the Charter, as well as the powers and functions of any other organ of the United Nations.
